Bishop Nestor Zass of San Francisco

Bishop of the
American Diocese from 1879-1882. Although based
in California, he retained a considerable interest in
Alaska, and particularly in the spiritual welfare of the
Eskimo. He vanished at sea in Alaskan waters,
allegedly a suicide, although there were no witnesses.
