APOCRYPHA
A largely Western term for ostensibly Biblical works
not admitted into the canon of scripture.
(Note that the deuterocanonical books
are not considered apocrypha by Orthodox or Roman Catholics.)
From the Orthodox perspective, the term is excessively broad, including
an entire spectrum of works ranging from clearly spurious and/or
heretical material to possibly authentic writings which the Church has
deemed of secondary importance. In between are the many writings which
have been altered to an unknown extent by heretics, and others which are
Orthodox in content but of uncertain authenticity.

The Lost Books of the Bible:
The much-reprinted XIX
Century
collection of New Testament apocrypha
and Apostolic Fathers, here enhanced with
extensive marginal notes (a feature inexplicably
rare in hypertext). This edition originally from an interesting
site called "The Seraphim Files", which has unfortunately
disappeared; the copy linked here still seems to work, however.
