ST. PACHOMIUS LIBRARY TRANSLATION OF THE SEPTUAGINT

• LIST OF BOOKS: Important note --- The translation is a slow process. For the time being, links from the list of books go not to the Septuagint, but to a King James Bible text from Fourmilab. As books are translated, the symbol "LXX" will be added to the link.

• ABOUT THE TRANSLATION: This is a new and independent English version, intended to follow the familiar King James version as closely as fidelity to the Greek text allows. In its use of XVII Century liturgical English, it differs from other ongoing translation projects which employ a more modern dialect. It differs from Brenton's XIX Century translation in using a different Greek text, one blessed for liturgical use. (The translation, however, is our own and has no ecclesiastical sanction.)

• ABOUT THE NOTES: The notes are meant to be helpful, but not to stand alone. They reflect the other content of the Library, and will hopefully grow along with it. The notes are derived mainly from patristic sources, but a few observations have been included reflecting modern secular scholarship, particularly on the subject of the lost Hebrew original from which the Seventy translated and its relation to the Masoretic tradition.
