Zalmoxis
The supreme god of the ancient Dacians. The evidence
concerning ancient Dacian religion is fragmentary to
say the least, but according to Romanian scholars the cult of
Zalmoxis bore a number of resemblances to Christianity,
and its priests lived ascetically in colleges resembling
Orthodox monasteries. Thus ancient Dacian religion is
said to have contained logoi spermatikoi which
later blossomed into the fullness of the Romanian Orthodox
Church.
