Unidentified Flying Objects
In the XX Century the neutral term "UFO" was applied
almost exclusively to aerial phenomena which were alleged
to exhibit intelligent design, but not to be of human
manufacture. People who accepted the existence of such
objects generally attributed them to an
extraterrestrial
civilisation, although some "ufologists" favoured an
"ultraterrestrial" explanation: flying saucers came
not from other planets but from other, unseen universes.
In previous centuries, similar reports
were explained as the activity of supernatural beings.
