Count Lev Nikolaievich Tolstoy
English/French LEO TOLSTOI
XIX/XX Centuries
Although Tolstoy is among the greatest Russian
novelists and philosophers and an influence
on modern Orthodox thought, his stubborn
and uncompromising insistence on extreme theological
positions combined with his international fame
led the Church to reluctantly excommunicate him near
the end of his life.
