Spruce Island, Alaska
Island near Kodiak in Alaska,
traditionally inhabited by Aleuts.
It was the site of St. Herman's
monastic cell, New Valaam.
Much later, Fr. Gerasim Schmaltz,
a ROCOR hermit, lived at the same site, and there have been
other attempts to create a monastic community.
The main population centre of the island is Ouzinkie.
