Severian, Bishop of Gabala
IV/V Centuries
Theological writer and
bishop of Jablah in Syria, he was one of
St. John Chrysostom's most relentless opponents. He was also
seemingly among
the few early Christian writers to argue that the Earth must be flat.
Rather astonishingly, he is
a saint of the Coptic Church, celebrated on the 7th day of the
month of Tout and described as a defender of Chrysostom;
perhaps the situation was not exactly as historians relate it.
