The New Skete of Cambridge, New York
A group of ascetic communities founded by
Fr. Laurence
Mancuso and comprised of a men's monastery, a
women's monastery, and a lay community. Originally
Uniate Franciscan,
New Skete was received into the
Orthodox Church in America in 1979. In the
Orthodox world, New Skete is known for its
sometimes controversial
liturgical reforms and its interest in the
ecumenical
movement; in the secular world, for its extremely
successful
dog-breeding and dog-training programme.
