Isis Worship

Egyptian polytheism was extremely popular in the Roman Empire during the late Republic and the first few centuries AD. The iconography of the goddess Isis and her son Horus is strikingly parallel to that of the Christian "Madonna and Child". Such resemblances between Christian and pagan custom were extensively discussed by patristic writers.
