Theodorus the Hermit of Pachoras
VIII Century
Hermit who lived in a New Kingdom Egyptian tomb
outside Faras in
Nubia. Nothing is known
about his life except that he recarved the walls
of the pagan tomb with extraordinary Christian
inscriptions, to which he signed his name and
a date equivalent to 739. The inscriptions include
lists of saints, the text of the Letter of Abgar,
apophthegmata of Desert Fathers (most of them
unattested elsewhere), and even the Latin
Sator Arepo palindrome.
Under construction --- far from complete! Read with caution.
