Philippi in Thrace
Famous in antiquity as the place where Cassius and Brutus were
defeated by the avengers of Julius Cæsar, Philippi
was one of the major
ecclesiastical centres in the Eastern Empire,
but later became a stronghold of the
Bogomil heresy.
