Capital Punishment
Because capital punishment reduces the time available
to the criminal for repentance, it has generally been
viewed with disfavour by the Orthodox Church. In many
Orthodox states even in (or indeed especially even in)
early times capital punishment was, if not entirely abolished,
then greatly reduced in frequency. As late as the
XIX Century, the Siberian
exile system was to some extent a remnant of this
attitude.
