Elizabeth Barrett Browning

XIX Century
Although not Orthodox, she was one of the very few Victorians to appreciate the Eastern Empire's literary and spiritual traditions. Her 1842 essay The Greek Christian Poets contains examples of her translations, some of them of of very high quality.
