St. Anacletus I, Pope of Rome
I Century
Successor to Pope/St. Linus, Pope/St. Anacletus reigned from c. 79 until
c. 92. Because the name Anacletus (or Anencletus), which means blameless,
was common among Greek slaves, some scholars doubt that Anacletus existed,
although Eusebius, the Liber pontificalis, and St. Irenaeus number
him
among the popes.
